The Gift is a handmade concertina book showing about 130 gelatin silver prints of pictures I shoot in Delhi and Rajasthan in 2025. The folded booklet is small and portable, but it can be displayed open and is more than 14 mt long. The accordion structure allows the readers to change and personalize the sequence of the pictures, and to find their own personal narrative and aesthetic rhythm. Once in India I took these pictures with the idea of making a scrapbook of my trip and soon I realized that the material I was shooting was heterogeneous. I finally felt that shooting this way was giving me freedom and pure pleasure.
I got gifted every time I pressed the shutter, by the people and the situations I found in front of my camera.
In this booklet I show portraits, street life, landscapes and animals I met along the way, but also photographic repetitions and “errors”, that become a crucial part of the narrative.
Chaotic, entertaining, at times dramatic and ruthless, this unique book stands as a record of my journey, but above all as a tangible embodiment of my working method with black-and-white photography.
